After a quick and easy check-in at our Blue Haven office, hop on, throttle up, and set off to explore one of Turks’ most famous abandoned shipwrecks: La Famille Express. As you head out of the marina, get familiar with your ‘ski as the docks fade into the distance… replaced by stretches of pristine beaches and crystal-clear waves. On a bright sunny day, you can see up to 100 feet underwater! As you cruise into open waters, you’ll see Caicos Conch Farm on your right, a unique educational site and seafood farm piled high with mountains of sparkling white conch shells and large ocean corals. Next up, you’ll pass Birds Rock, home to many pods of pelicans, sitting just off the coast of a lush nature reserve. Turning the corner, you’ll enter the Long Bay Area, where you’ll set your eyes on La Famille Express: a remarkable shipwreck full of history (and plenty of safe spots to jump off from–for the thrill-seeker inside you.) Sitting just 2 miles off-shore, this former Russo-Panamanian oil rig is only accessible by Jetski or boat. So hand your ‘skis over to your guide, climb up the ladder and explore a slice of shipwrecked history, or take a dip and relax in the clear, shallow waters. Live out your mermaid (or marine biologist!) dreams as you dive around the ship’s underbelly, the lush wildlife and patches of coral making it a fantastic snorkeling spot. With your guide snapping pictures and videos from the side, you’re free to chart your own path on this hour-long journey, inclusive of all age groups.
